Imoinu celebrated with religious fervour

Imoinu Irat Thouni was organised at different parts of the state with prayers for abundance of food and prosperity of the land.
Ningombam Angouton Memorial Trust and Meetei Shanglen Ngak-senba Lup organised its 13th Ima Imoinu Thouni Thouram at the Wangkhei Thambalkhong shed of the Shanglen on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Lup functionary Seram Gojendro Meetei noted that for long the age old religion, customs and traditions of Meetei remained forgotten, except by few people who had been following and preserving them.
As such to revive the waning religion and traditions, the Lup is organising the Ima Imoinu Thouni to seek blessing for peace, abundance of food and prosperity in the land, he added.
Meanwhile, as part of Imoinu celebration, Imoinu Leirak Management Committee developed Naorem Leikai, Liwa road, Imoinu Leirak as model lane and it was opened for public on Friday.
Speaking to the media, Committee advisor N Lokeshwar mentioned that the lane which used to be waterlogged at the slightest rainfall has now been developed into a model lane fitted with CCTV camera, lamp posts and sculptures to make it beautiful and serve as a resting area for public.
He continued that on the auspicious occasion of Imoinu Irat Thouni, the lane has been opened for people after performing customary rituals.
He prayed that from today's festivity onwards more such model lanes are opened in every locality, he stated.
Imoinu celebrations were also held at Yumnam Leikai, Singjamei Keithel and Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.
