Bombs recovered; smuggling bid foiled

Imphal, January 14 2022:
In a joint operation with Manipur police, troops of Phundrei Battalion Assam Rifles of IGAR (South) recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and a grenade from near area of JNV, Umathel village in Kakching district on Friday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that based on specific inputs, troops of Assam Rifles along with Manipur police launched a joint operation which led to the recovery of IED and grenade.
The IED and grenade were meant to be planted against Security Forces.
Later, the recovered items were disposed of by Manipur Police.
In another release, the PRO informed that troops of Tengnoupal Battalion of IGAR (South) foiled cross border smuggling near Kwatha village in Tengnoupal district on Friday.
During a border domination patrol, troops of Assam Rifles uncovered a large number of packages concealed in thick foliage in the forest.
On thorough search of the packages, illegal goods including electronics, footwear and toys items worth Rs 60.7 lakh were recovered, the PRO said, adding that the recovered items have been handed over to Customs Department, Moreh.
