The 54th mid-term sym-posium on "Industry 5.0: The New Revolution" was held today at the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Imphal with Chief Minister N Biren Singh gracing the programme as chief guest.
The symposium which will be held till tomorrow is being organized by the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (IETE) .
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister N Biren expressed his pleasure to be part of the symposium and to be amongst the fraternity of the IETE which is India's premier professional society set up in 1953 .
He said that the Industry 5.0, also known as the 5th Industrial Revolution, is a new and emerging phase of industrialization that sees humans working alongside advanced technology and AI (artificial intelligence) powered robots to enhance productivity.
The Chief Minister further stated that the Industry 5.0 is a more human-centric approach that allows humans to intervene where required and move away from excessive automation to incorporate critical thinking and adaptability, while still taking advantage of the precision and repeatability of machines.
Appreciating the IETE for organizing the symposium, he stated that the institute is devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology, of electronics, telecommunication, information technology and related areas serving over 1.25 lakh members.
He added that upgrading the skills of students via ISF (IETE Students' Forum) chapters in various colleges is a laudable initiative of IETE.
It imparts crucial training, gives confidence to youngsters not only in applying for jobs but also in setting up Start-ups that offer job opportunities to others.
The Chief Minister lauded the institute saying that researchers working in universities and colleges not only in India but also in R&D labs in countries in the Middle-East, Europe, UK, USA and China consider IETE journals as the preferred medium to record their academic contributions among a comity of global professionals.
This enhances India's image globally, in tune with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to make India a Vishwaguru, he stated.
He said that he felt overwhelmed to observe the unbounded enthusiasm shown by IETE and eminent persons participating in the symposium, to advance the aims and objectives of the country's leading professional body with a mission to develop and improve technical and professional competencies to keep up with mind-boggling advances.
President, IETE Dr V Gunasekhar Reddy, Chairman, IETE, Imphal Centre H Kulachandra Singh, Chairman, TPPC Prof DS Bormane, former Vice Chancellor of Manipur University Prof HNK Sharma, Secretary General, IETE Gp Capt Sonpal Singh (retd), Vice Chancellor, Dhanamanjuri University N Rajmuhon Singh, Additional Director General, Prasar Bharati Sunil Srivastava, Director, NIELIT Imphal N Debachandra Singh and officials of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and delegates from across the country attended the symposium.
During the programme, Chief Minister N Biren Singh also released a souvenir.
