Sit-in against liquor legalisation continues

Imphal, April 08 2023:
Continuing its democratic protest against the cabinet decision to legalise production and sale of liquor in the state, Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) along with different women's organisations staged sit-in protest at Salam Mayai Leikai community hall and Kamehg Sabal on Saturday.
CADA along with All Manipur Women's Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) and Salam Mayai & Maning Leikai Apunba Meira Paibi Lup staged a sit-in protest at Salam Mayai Leikai community hall.
The sit-in protest held at Kameng Sabal was jointly organised by Nupi Samaj, Kameng Sabal Khunai Kanba Nupi Lup and CADA.
During the sit-ins, the protestors held placards inscribed with slogans like 'Will not accept liquor legalisation', 'How will liquor be restricted by legalisation when it could not be controlled during prohibition?', 'Will a good quality liquor not deteriorate health?', 'Willcrime be reduced by consuming quality liquor?', 'What is a good quality liquor?', 'Is the legalisation of liquor amidst war on drugs akin to restriction in drug abuse and not in liquor' among others.
The protestors also shouted slogans demanding revocation of the cabinet decision to legalise liquor in the state.
