Police crack down on modified silencers

Imphal West police confiscated as many as 187 modified (loud) silencers (exhaust pipes) which produced sound higher than the permissible decibel range from motorcycles in the previous month (March) .
Addressing a press briefing at his office today, Imphal West SP Dr S Ibomcha said that the drive to seize loud exhaust pipes were taken up as many modified vehicles cause nuisance on the roads by producing a deafening sound.
Continuing that 187 exhaust pipes were seized for unauthorised installation in March, Dr S Ibomcha maintained that the police station which seized the maximum number of modified silencers were felicitated as a token of encouragement.

As per the SP, Lamsang police station seized the maximum number of modified silencers (40) .
Saying that the commando team led by ASI L Sarat was also felicitated for seizing 21 unauthorised exhaust pipes, the SP main- tained that the seized exhaust pipes will be destroyed at an appropriate time.
The SP went on to state that the Imphal West police also removed tinted films having a visibility rate of less than 50 per cent from 354 vehicles during the same month .
No vehicles are allowed to have tinted windows whose visibility is less than 50 per cent as per the ruling of the Supreme Court, he added.
Maintaining that there are reports of many people using tinted glasses with less visibility inside four-wheelers to engage in criminal offences such as abduction, drug transportation etc, Dr S Ibomcha appealed to the people to stop using loud exhaust pipes and unauthorised tinted glasses in their vehicles.
Dr S Ibomcha also cautioned that the police will start taking legal actions and impose fines against the defaulters.
