MNPF chief's wife, PLA cadre arrested

Imphal, April 08 2023:
A team of special CDO unit, Khabeisoi along with women constables of Imphal East Women police station led by CDO OC Subedar L Bebekananda arrested the wife of chairman of Manipur Naga People's Front (MNPF) on the charge of carrying out the front's activities as over-ground worker, from Nungourok area in Chandel district around 3.30 pm Saturday.
Police source said that the CDO team went to the area on Saturday around 2.30 pm to carry out search operation following information of presence of MNPF members.
While carrying out the operation, the CDO team spotted a woman and questioned her identity due to suspicion.
She identified herself as Kashun-gnao Olivia (55) wife of John Francis Kashung of Nungourok, Chandel district.
On preliminary ques tioning, she disclosed that her husband John Francis is the chairman of MNPF and she worked as over ground worker of the armed group under the command of her husband.
Kashungnao further disclosed of having collected huge amount of money from businessmen, government offices and general public in Ukhrul area on behalf of MNPF.
On April 3,'she received Rs 15,000 through Gpay on her mobile No.7005426309 from Leisa Jojo of Nongdam (T) village, Nongdam Lamlong, Ukhrul for distribution to the cadres for buying uniform and medicine.
Kashungnao Olivia was arrested from her residence at Nungourok, Chandel district.
The CDO team also seized one mobile phone along with a Jio SIM card, and a voter ID card from her possession.
She along with seized items was handed over to Machi police station for further legal action.
Meanwhile, a combined security team of 4 Assam Rifle and special commando unit, Khabeisoi on Friday arrested a cadre of the proscribed RPF/PLA from Khewa Phurju Leikai in Imphal East district.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Lanbilung Ka-mei alias Restafen (35) son of Gaikhanglin Kamei of Neikanlong, Thangmeiband in Imphal West district.
According to police, on receipt of specific input, the combined tem led by special commando officer in-charge subedar L Bebekananda Singh conducted frisking at Khewa Phurju Leikai from around 8 pm during which a man was halted for questioning/verification.
Apart from identifying self as Lanbilung Kamei, he reportedly revealed of being a hard core cadre of the PLA holding the rank of captain and assistant secretary of minority development and affairs of the organisation, the police said, adding that Lanbilung joined the outfit through one (late) Kanta of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai in 2006 .
Informing that the arrestee completed 60-day basic military training in Myanmar in 2007 under army number 2900 and MC number 337, the police said Lanbilung was involved in unlawful activities such as extortion from the public, businessmen and government offices and recruitment of new cadres.
Lanbilung has been handed over to Sagolmang police station for further action.
