Imphal, April 08 2023:
In view of the regular scuffle between street vendors around the three Khwairamband Nupi Keithel and licensed vendors of these markets, the Working Committee - Khwairamband Ima Keithel urged the authorities concerned to bring an amicable solution at the earliest.
The Working Committee in a press note said that the increasing number of street vendors around the three Ima Keithel has impacted the business of licensed vendors of these markets thereby taking a toll on their source of livelihood.
Though the Government has provided remedial measures to solve the issue of street vendors on regular intervals, the problem still persists leading to frequent scuffle among the street vendors and licensed vendors sitting inside the market hampering the business of Ima markets.
Temporary market sheds have been constructed for the street vendors to sell however the street vendors continue to sit around the three Ima Keithel preventing the customers from entering these markets which is really unfortunate, lamented the Committee.
The Committee maintained that the ever increasing number of street vendors has become a major concern for the licensed vendors who are vending inside the Ima markets increasing their problems and posing a threat to their survival.
Amid this, the fencing at the entry of Keithel No 1 and Keithel No 3 by the State Government in the name of Smart City has added more woes to their already existing problems.
Therefore the Committee appealed to all concerned to look into the issues of licensed vendors of Ima markets who are vending inside the market for their social and economic improvement and to preserve the identity of Ima markets.
