Students get smartphones

Thirty-six students were given smartphones under Chief Minister's College Maheiroi E-Support Scheme (CMCMESS) today.
The 36 students include 22 of Manipur College and 14 of Oriental College.
They were given smartphones under the scheme at programmes held at their respective colleges.
At the smartphone distribution programme at Manipur College, Principal Dr W Shambhunath Singh said the smartphones were given to students belonging to households below poverty line (BPL) under the CMCMESS.
The scheme aims at providing the students with technologies and imparting digital education, he said.
Manipur College CMCMESS Committee convenor Dr P Birchandra said the present age is of information and communication technology (ICT) and advised students who were given smartphones to use them wisely for knowledge.
He also advised students of the college to practice healthy competition with the students of other colleges and improve their knowledge.
Coordinator of IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) Manipur College, Dr A Devidas Sharma said classroom teaching has evolved much and with advancement in technology, students now have easier access to all study materials and knowledge.
Almost all materials are found on YouTube and other platforms.
Moreover, smartphones enable students to join online classes and easily access study materials using them.
The students who received the smartphones also spoke about the usefulness of the scheme and expressed their ideas for effective use of technology.
Asst Professor (Education) Manipur College, Dr Soibam Birajit Singh spoke about "ICT enabled Class, Flipped Class, Learning Management System (LMS) on Moodle platform" .
Asst Prof of Geography, Nanjest Thongbam spoke on "Manipur College Digital Recording studio" .
On the other hand, the smartphone distribution programme at Oriental College was attended by Principal Dr S Ranjit Singh; Coordinator of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Ch Somorendra Singh; Dean of Arts Dr G Ranita Devi; Dean of Science Dr Kh Keinahanbi Devi and HOD of Chemistry M Lokendro Singh.
