HC admits 10 election petitions

The High Court of Manipur has on Wednesday admitted 10 election petitions and issued notice to 10 MLAs returnable on different dates of May and June.
At least four election petitions were listed for hear- ing before the Single Bench of Justice Lanusungkum Jamir.
The petitions were filed by Md Nasiruddin Khan against Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshwor and 4 others, Soibam Subhas-chandra against Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA Soirai-sam Kebi, Ahanthem Shan- joy against Kumbi MLA Sanasam Premchandra and Langhu Paulhring Anal against Chandel MLA SS Olish.
Four other election petitions were also listed for hearing before the Single Bench of Justice MV Muralidaran and they were filed by Okram Joy against Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam, Kshetrimayum Biren against Lamlai MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha, Lourembam Sanjoy against Andro MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar and Ginsuan-hau Zou against Singhat MLA Chinlunthang.
Further, two more election petitions were listed for hearing before Justice Ahanthem Bimol's Single Bench and the same were filed by Oinam Nabakishore against Bishnupur MLA Govindas Konthoujam and Joytin Waikhom against Thangmeiband MLA Khumukcham Joykishan.
All the petitions were filed under Section 80, 80-A, 81 and 84 read with Section 100(1) (d) (i) (iv) and Section 101 of the Representation of the People's Act 1951 challenging the election of the respondent MLAs from their respective Assembly Constituencies as Members of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on the ground of improper acceptance of nomination papers, furnishing wrong information, false statements and non disclosure of their assets, among others.
The separate election petitions prayed to declare the election of the respondent MLAs as null and void and to elect the petitioners as Members of Manipur Legislative Assembly from their respective Assembly Constituencies.
Justice Lanusungkum Jamir, after hearing the submission of petitioner's counsels, issued notices to MLAs Lourembam Rameshwor, Soraisam Kebi, Sanasam Premchand and SS Olish returnable before May 23 while Justice MV Muralidaran sent notices to MLAs Karam Shyam and Khongbantabam Ibomcha returnable on or before 27 May.
The same Judge also issued notices to MLAs Thounaojam Shyamkumar and Chinlunthang returnable on or before June 2 .
Similarly, Justice Ahanthem Bimol sent notices to MLAs Govindas Konthoujam and Khumukcham Joykishan returnable on or before May 23 and May 24 respectively.
Till today, the High Court of Manipur had admitted altogether 16 election petitions.
Meanwhile, eight more election petitions filed before the High Court have been listed for hearing tomorrow.
The petitions are filed by Y Antas Khan against Lilong MLA Abdul Nasir, Laishram Radhakishore against Oinam MLA Irengbam Nalini, Yumkham Erabot against Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar, Chaltonlien Amo against Tipaimukh MLA Ngursanglur Sanate, Fajur Rahim against Wabagei MLA Usham Deben, Lourembam Sanjit against Andro MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar,.
Oinam Lukhoi against Wangoi MLA Khuraijam Loken and Moirangthem Okendro against Heirok MLA Thokchom Radheshyam .
