Senapati, May 04 2022:
Project FAB (Friends Across barriers) MANEDA organised a training session on pedagogical aspects of learning mathematics at Mt Zion School English School, Lower Section, on Wednesday.
The project under Terre Des Hommes aims to work with other schools in the project areas in Senapati and Kangpokpi, where teachers will be trained to use the TLMs in schools.
Maths TLMs from Jodo Gyan are given out to the schools in the project areas.
Meveine Kazia - Project coordinator explained that the Maths TLMs, Project FAB, aims to minimise the fear of numbers and make learning numbers fun, elaborating that the core focus is on development of number sense from an early stage.
In this approach, the connection of the number with quantity is kept alive, and helps to connect to the live experiences and intuitions of the child.
This quantity sense is developed through a strong focus on counting and then structured counting which follows the natural and flexible ways of mental addition and sub tractions.
In the process, the team looks forward to making the children comfortable with different stages of number sense up to 1000, number combinations, doubling and halving, various games to strengthen number sense, context problems (word problems), problem solving involving addition/subtraction and multiplication/division, she added.
Headmistress Hesho Anila praised the TLMs' method of teaching while appreciating the effort
of FAB-MANEDA team.
