Imphal, May 04 2022:
Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council (CPI/MSC) has denounced the non-payment of advertisement bills to media houses by the government for a long time and alleged that it is a strategy to suppress media/press.
In a release, CPI MSC assistant secretary M Joykumar said that by taking advantage of being in power, the government used front pages of the newspapers for their advertisements.
While stating that there is ample evidence of the media becoming more dependent on advertisement every day, he questioned intention of the government to frequently reserve the front pages for advertisement but without timely clearance of the accumulated bills.
While noting out that the media played a vital role in the recently concluded 12th assembly election, Joykumar also contended that the Narendra Modi-led government came to power in the country with the help of the media.
It is clear that the party which is in power and its leaders tried to get votes by chiseling the press, he claimed, while adding that such non-payment of the advertisement bill has put more burden on the employees of media houses.
While demanding the government to clear the pending dues to media houses, Joykumar asserted that it is wrong to cheat the journalists who have been sacrificing for the welfare of the people and sustaining their lives with the little money they get from doing their job with sincerity and dedication.
