Aquarium exhibition ends, prizes distributed

The weeklong 7th State Level Aquarium Exhibition cum Flower Show concluded on Wednesday at Manipur Science Aquarium, DM University Campus.
The closing function was attended by DIET principal L Gambhir as chief guest, Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) director Dr L Dinachandra as president and (Retd) HoD Botany Department Imphal College L Somarjit as guest of honour.
In his address, MASTEC scientific officer and science aquarium in-charge Dr RK Pritamjit said that the first state level aquarium show was organised in 2012 under the collaborative effort of state's entrepreneurs of aquaculture and floriculture.
He informed that the science aquarium is playing a key role in the preservation of local species and also helping scientists and researchers in their studies.
While stating that efforts are being made to preserve indigenous fish species like pengba, ngaton, nganap, ngakijou, and muga-nga, etc, he conceded that rearing and preserving the indigenous fish species require special condition unlike other imported species.
Dr Pritamjit also said that the state level exhibition was organised to provide source of livelihood to budding entrepreneurs through aquaculture and floriculture.
He also congratulated all the participating 24 entrepreneurs.
Certificates were also provided to them.
On the other hand, prizes for winners of the state level spot painting competition organised by MASTEC as part of the exhibition were also distributed on the occasion.
