Imphal, June 30 2026:
Protesters, mostly women clashed with security forces at Nongshum and Uyumpok in the Konthoujam Assembly Constituency of Imphal East today over the Government's move to relocate cadres of the Pambei-led UNLF from a camp at Nongshum.
The 10th IRB was later moved in to occupy the place vacated by the Pambei led UNLF cadres.
As residents strongly opposed the relocation by blocking the road between Nongshum and Uyumpok from early morning, security forces fired tear gas shells and mock bombs to bring the situation under control.
Some women protesters sustained injuries during the police action.

Later in the day, residents bid an emotional farewell to the MPA cadres, offering them their blessings as they departed.
According to reports, local residents began their protest early in the morning against the Government's decision to station personnel of the 10th India Reserve Battalion (IRB) at Nongshum in place of the MPA cadres.
As the MPA cadres came out of their camp, a large number of residents gathered at the site.
Central and State security forces subsequently erected barricades along the route to prevent the protesters from advancing.
At around 11.30 am, personnel of the 10th IRB, escorted by security forces, arrived in the area as part of the relocation exercise.
However, they were stopped by a large number of protesters at Uyumpok Bridge.
As the situation turned tense, security forces fired tear gas shells and mock bombs before escorting the 10th IRB personnel to Nongshum.
Several protesters reportedly sustained injuries in the police action, while some others fainted.
At around 1 pm, protesters attempted to march towards the Nongshum camp to stop the relocation but were again stopped by the security forces.
A couple of hours later, at around 3 pm, the MPA cadres came out of the camp to leave the area, triggering fresh protests at Nongshum.
The protesters blocked the road, leading to a heated standoff with the security forces.
The protesters continued their agitation despite the repeated use of tear gas shells and mock bombs by the security forces.
Later, officials of the Imphal East Police held talks with the protesters.
During the talks, the protesters demanded that the strength of the 10th IRB personnel deployed in the area be increased, that Kuki militants not be allowed to fire even a single round, and that no Central security forces be stationed in the area.
Even as the protesters bid an emotional farewell to the MPA cadres, they raised slogans against the Government and accused it of siding with the Kuki community.
