Imphal, May 30 2021:
Karang Island Motor Boat and Boat Association (KIMBBA) has asked if the Loktak Development Authority has approved the operation of motor-boats in Loktak Lake in the name of tourism.
In a statement, secretary of the association, Salam Kheda said that people of Karang Island, especially farmers are adversely affected by the developmental projects taken up in the lake such as Ithai Barrage and Loktak Hydro Power Project.
KIMBBA, since its formation in 1972, has been transporting essential commodities for the people of Karang Island, it added.
He also claimed that operating numerous motor-boats at Loktak Lake by the well off people in the name of tourism is affecting the life of farmers as well as the ecosystem of the lake greatly.
He then urged all concerned to stop such an activity at the earliest and also make the Karanh Water Supply Scheme functional at the earliest.
