Covid-19 claims ex-minister Brajabidhu

Three-time MLA from Lamsang assembly constituency and former minister Wangkheimayum Brajabidhu (72) of Lamdeng Mayai Leikai passed away at Shija Hospitals around 4:10 am Sunday due to Covid-19.With his demise, the state has seen demise of five former MLAs of the state in the month of May due to the infectious disease.
The former minister was admitted to the ICU of Shija Hospitals, Langol on May 15, but succumbed to Covid-19 related complications on Sunday morning.
Brajabidhu had been a Congress MLA for three consecutive terms of 2002, 2007 and 2012 from Lamsang AC and he went on to become the minister of CADA and minor irrigation from 2002-2005 .
He was also the Lamsang Kendra Congress Committee (I) secretary from 1970-72 and Rural Development Organisation (RDO) chief functionary from 1975-2002.He participated in International Leadership Training IIRR held in the Philippines in 1981, Best Micro-Finance Practice at Bangladesh in 1990 and International Programme on Community Based AIDS Prevention Strategies, ACPCD in Bangkok in 1992 .
Meanwhile, in honour of W Brajabidhu, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) kept the party's flag at half-mast.
MPCC president Govindas Konthoujam has also conveyed party's deep condolence over the demise of Brajabidhu Various other leaders and organisations including Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Y Khemchand, CAF & PD minister Th Satyabrata, Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam, Imphal West Congress Committee and Sekmai Block Congress Committee have also condoled his death and shared the grief of the bereaved family.
A condolence meeting was also held by Lamsang Block Congress Committee at the late minister's Lamdeng Mayai Leikai resident which was marked by paying of floral tributes and observance of a two-minute silence in his memory.
