Former AMWJU president Hemant no more

Imphal, May 30 2021:
Former president of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) Sagolshem Hemant, who was also a prolific travelogue writer, passed away at RIMS hospital due to an illness on Sunday.
Born at Keishamthong Moirang Ningthou Leirak, Hemant was former editor of monthly journal 'Eikhoigee Panthung', weekly journal 'Pudin' and local daily 'Ningtam Lanpao'.
He was a prolific writer with speciality in travelogue and his book 'Kengjoi Chingsangda (Far beyond the misty hills)' published in 2006 became the best-selling of the time.
He translated Bertil Lintner's 'Land of Jade: A Journey from India through Northern Burma to China' into Manipuri and also penned another book 'Turel gi Wari'.
In a release, AMWJU acting president Soubam Bokuljaoba Meetei informed that AMWJU, Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) and former AMWJU presidents convened a condolence meeting over the demise of Sagolshem Hemant and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
In separate releases, United Front Manipur, Royal Riders Manipur and Patriotic Writers' Forum deeply mourned the sudden demise of Hemant and observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
They also shared pain and grief of the bereaved family.
