Medical camp conducted, trees planted

Along with Red Cross Society, Ukhrul, Shangshak Battalion of IGAR (South) conducted a medical camp at Keinsing village in Kamjong district on Friday which was attended by a total of 170 villagers, including 64 females and 71 children from Keinsing, Namlee and K Asang Khullen.
The initiative by Assam Rifles has solved the long pending need of medical assistance for the villagers, said a PRO IGAR (S) release, adding that the village authorities applauded the efforts of the Assam Rifles for such kind gesture.
On the other-hand, Kasong COB of Shangshak Battalion AR organised a mass tree plantation drive at K Asang Khullen village in Kamjong district on Saturday to promote afforestation creating clean and green environment thereby to reduce impacts of global warming.
Informing that a total of 500 saplings were planted during the drive, PRO IGAR (S) said in a release that the event focussed on imbibing the importance of trees and spreading awareness amongst the troops on saving earth by planting more trees.
Meanwhile, Somsai Battalion of IGAR (South) also conducted tree plantation drives at Tusom Christian village and Poi village in Ukhrul district on Saturday.
A total of 500 saplings of pine trees were planted along with villagers of Tusom and Poi during the camp.
