Imphal, November 27 2016:
The All Clubs Organisations and Meira Paibis Lup, Kangleipak (ACOAM-Lup, Kangleipak) has said that the statement issued by the organiser of the 5th International Tourism Mart that the address of City Convention Centre which was given as Home Church Lane was taken from Google is pathetically laughable.
Speaking to media persons at the Lup's office, Lamphelpat, president Ksh Somorendro said " We appreciate the Director of Tourism for owning up to the mistake and issuing a statement for clarification after facing backlash from various organisations including the Lup" .
However, he pointed out that it was not the action itself but the reason given by the organiser, and that too none other than the Ministry of Tourism, that the address was taken from Google that is really laughable.
He elaborated on the fact that anyone can easily name a location or place tagged on Google Maps.
A naming error can be piled on top of another error by over writing the previous one.
He asked if Google was really the 'go to destination' for everything, even for something as big as the internationally advertised Sangai Festival, without double checking and confirming the facts first-hand.
Somorendro urged the authorities to check such grave errors in order to prevent such embarrassing incidents in the future.
He also stressed that some recent trends of renaming locations, rivers, hills, leikais etc have really confused the people and have even led to some unwanted incidents occurring as tensions flared.
ACOAM-Lup would take up a drive to put signboards at such places to clear the confusion, he said and urged the people and the various organisations of the State to support the endeavour.
Somorendro said that a public meeting would be held at Manipur Press Club on December 16 at 10 am to discuss the issue and requested the people to take part in the meet and provide valuable suggestions and feedbacks.
