Imphal, March 17 2020:
The unfortunate incident at Chassad following a land dispute could have been averted if the para military personnel deployed nearby had taken up preventive measures on time and if there were sufficient man power at Chassad police station.
Briefing media persons today, Laishram Thoithoi general secretary of AMUCO said that the land dispute between Sampui and Chassad is not a new development and added that the confrontation has raged about 200 houses of Chassad to the ground.
Thoithoi met the media persons today evening after visiting the site of the incident.
The AMUCO leader said that the land dispute is a long standing issue and added that about 22 houses including properties were raged to the ground.
The villagers are left with nothing except the clothes they were wearing at the time of the incident, he added.
The damage could have been contained if Chassad police station had the required man power, he said and added that the incident happened right under the nose of a post of 42 Assam Rifles and questioned why the Assam Rifles personnel are posted there if they could not respond to the need of the time.
Thoithoi further asked the State Government to work out an amicable solution among the villagers of Sampui and Chassad at the earliest and added that the State Government should take up all possible measures for resettlement of the villagers who have lost their homes and other properties.
AMUCO is looking forward to extending relief material in a short period of time to the affected villagers and appealed the people of the State to generously extend their support in any form.
AMUCO also appealed the people to refrain them from uploading wrong and misleading information on the social media.
