Imphal / Aizawl, March 17 2020:
In view of the torching of a number of houses in Chassad village by Kamjong villagers following a land dispute yesterday, United Tribal People's Council Manipur (UTPCM) has appealed both the parties to settle matter amicably.
It expressed solidarity to the fire victims as they have lost their houses and properties, said general secretary UTPCM.
The council further appealed to the State Government to give suitable compensation to the victims.
On the other hand, Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), ZoRO (Zo Reunification Organisation) and Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) today strongly condemned the burning of houses in Chassad village.
ZPM, in a statement, vehemently condemned the violence and demanded the Manipur Government to arrest and punishment the culprits at the earliest.
It demanded the Government to give adequate compensation to the victims of the violence.
In a separate statement, ZoRO also condemned the burning of houses and properties belonging to Chassad villagers.
Condemning the incident, MPYCC slammed the BJP Government in Manipur for allegedly allowing such violence to occur in the State while citing that "it reflects the BJP Government's failure in law and order".
It demanded the Manipur Government to act quickly to bring the culprits to justice and give compensation to the victims.
