Hechin Haokip, woman who led 2011 '123-day agitation' no more

It was a sad day for the people of Sadar Hills as Hechin Haokip, the women's wing leader of the famous 2011 Sadar Hills movement popularly known as '123 Days Agitation' passed away yesterday at around 8.20 pm at her Kangpokpi residence.
Lahikhochin Haokip alias Hechin Haokip (54) is survived by two sons, four daughters, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
She was buried after her funeral ceremony today at Kangpokpi Independent Baptist Church cemetery.
Hechin Haokip led womenfolk at Kangpokpi DHQs during the 2011 Sadar Hills movement that witnessed a complete 123 days National Highway 2 (Imphal-Dimapur road) blockade.
Womenfolk of Kangpokpi had played a vital role during the districthood demand.
They suffered tremendously but were rewarded in 2016 when Kangpokpi got districthood.
Hechin Haokip was the president of Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization (KWWO) during the 2011 Sadar Hills movement, which gave her the responsibility to lead thousands of women.
She was not only a prominent social leader and a 'responsible housewife' but also an enthusiastic Kangpokpi Correspondent for PTI in the 1990s.Her late husband Sehpu Haokip was also the managing chairman of Kangpokpi News Centre.
Considering that 'there is no light in a place where there is no newspaper,' she later served as a manager at Zalaileng News Centre along with her daughter and son providing the denizens of Kangpokpi DHQs important informations, events, happenings around the world by providing newspapers in the town.
Many prominent leaders, well wishers, family members, near and dear ones attended the funeral and mourned her untimely demise.
