Imphal, July 04 2014 :
The 2nd foundation day of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System was held yesterday at Nongmeibung Bazar.
Speaking on the occasion, convenor of JCILPS H Ibotombi Khuman said the committee is currently working together with 30 civil society organisations.
After Manipur joined the Indian federation, the newly appointed Chief Commissioner Himat Singh abolished the 'pass system' on November 18, 1950 which was in force in the state for a long time.
Since then, foreigners continue to flow in continuously but the State Government has been acting blind and mute.
The committee doesn't consider the outsiders wrongly nor has the intention to hurt them or drive them out forcefully.
But the Government need to check this influx and keep them under a systematic permit system.
The Government should pass an appropriate Act in order to save the indigenous people.

Weak political will of the State Government has made the Central Govt turned a blind on this issue even though people of the State have been demanding ILPS .
The arrival of Look East Policy and Trans Asian Highway have multiplied the growing need of such an Act else all the indigenous people and their customs would be overwhelmed by outsiders in the not so distant future.
Noting that these foreigners come from Assam through ILP implemented Nagaland, the Committee appealed to the Bus/Tata own- ers, drivers and police manning different check-posts along National Highways to work sincerely so as not to bring those foreigners and check the influx for the betterment of the society.
Various demands of the Committee consist of implementation of the ILP system in Manipur, forbidding entry of foreigners without permit, save the indigenous people of Manipur and their the land and enactment of a separate land law for Manipur.
