MLA encourages students to use bicycle

Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam has encouraged students to use bicycle while stating that there is nothing to feel ashamed of riding bicycle.
He made the statement during the flag off ceremony of Fit India Freedom Rider Cycle Rally jointly organised by Fit India Campaign Committee of Manipur University and Fit India Club under the aegis of ministry of youth affairs and sports on Friday.
The MLA along with MU vice-chancellor professor N Lokhendra, Olympian Kh Thoiba, renowned film star and singer Hamom Sadananda flagged off the bicycle rally.
Speaking on the occasion, Karam Shyam noted that stu dents used to ride bicycles in the past but this habit is no longer in practice today.
This is not a good sign, he said and added that riding bicycle not only improves one's health but also contributes in the fight against climate change.
Bicycles are used as a mode of transport in many developed countries and the youth of the state should cultivate such habits, the MLA stressed.
He also encouraged educated youth of the state not to sit idle waiting for government jobs after completing their education but to take up self-employment activities.
