AMCO to hold meet over poll date

Imphal, January 27 2022: All Manipur Chris-tian Organisation (AMCO) will hold an assembly of all denominational leaders of Christian faith on February 3 to decide further course of action to be taken as it has received no response so far from chief election commis-sioner's office on changing the date of the first phase of election which falls on Sunday.

In a release, AMCO stated that it held a special prayer on Republic Day to pray for peace and progress of the country.

After the prayer session, the members pres-ent discussed the controver-sial polling date for the first phase of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election which falls on Sunday i.e., February 27 .

AMCO leaders had earlier met the chief electoral of-ficer, Manipur on January 17, with a memorandum requesting the chief elec-tion commissioner to change the date of the first phase of election so that it may not fall on Sunday which is the day of worship for the Christian community, it mentioned.AMCO continued that the Wednesday's meeting resolved to hold a meeting of Christian leaders on February 3 to decide the future course of action to be taken on the matter.
