Union to observe Jan 31 as 'Day of Betrayal'

Co-ordinating Body of Trade Union, Manipur has announced that it will observe January 31 as 'A Day of Betrayal' in the state in support of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM)'s call for protest over non-implementation of their demands by the central government.
In a release, Union's secretary L Sotinkumar stated that even though the three disputed farm laws were repealed in the last winter session of the Parliament, other assurances given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the united body of farmers, SKM are yet to be fulfilled.
After deliberation on the assurances given by the Prime Minister and Union agricultural minister Narendra Singh Tomar and the reports of the committee formed as per the directive of Supreme Court of India, a special meeting of SKM held on January 15 resolved to observe nationwide 'A Day of Betrayal' protest on January 31, if its main demands including making Minimum Support Price (MSP) of agriculture produces legally binding, rollback of Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2021 and sacking of Union minister of state Ajay Mishra who is allegedly involved in the infamous Lakhimpur Kheri incident are not upheld, it informed.
The release mentioned that central trade union organisations agreed to extend their support to the protest in its meeting on January 24 after a request from SKM.
It can be recalled that SKM has also backed the upcoming nationwide protest being called by the trade unions on February 22-23, it added.
