Expelled Cong MLA Joykisan joins JD-U

Thangmeiband MLA Khumukcham Joykisan, who got elected in 2017 election on Congress ticket, has officially joined Janata Dal-United (JD-U) on Thursday and party's national president Rajiv Ranjan accorded him warm welcome in a felicita-tion function held at Hotel Classic Grande in the presence of party's national secretary and Manipur in-charge Ramprit Mandal.
While welcoming the MLA, Rajiv Ranjan said that JD-U is happy to have a seasoned pol-itician like Joykisan, who won elections in three consecutive terms.
The party believes that he has joined JD-U on seeing the performance of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and his good governance.
After the par-ty formed the government in Bihar under the leadership of Nitish Kumar in 2005, Bihar has seen significant developmental changes.
Before 2005, the daily electricity consumption was only 600 megawatt and most of the rural areas did not have electric-ity connections.
However, today electricity connection has been provided to the entire state and the daily consumption rate has increased to 6700 megawatt.
Urban areas are getting 24-hour power supply while rural areas are getting 22-hour power supply a day, he said.
1He also spoke about various achievements of the JD-U gov-ernment in Bihar including women's reservation, estab-lishment of women's self-help groups, improved road connec-tivity, improved law and order situation among others.
Responding to queries from media persons, Rajiv Ranjan said that the party would be declaring its candidates for the 12th Mani-pur Legislative assembly election within a couple of days and it will fight the election without any pre-poll alliance.
He also said that JD-U is not just a political party but also a family.
The party will always have special place for MLA Joykisan as a senior leader of the party .
MLA Joykisan said that Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is a big name in Indian politics and he has high regards for him who is not any less than Prime Minister Nar-endra Modi.
He is happy to be part of the party and he will do his best to increase the party's strength in the state.
He also said that the party will definitely win some seats and the party is targeting to become part of the next govern-ment.
More politicians would be joining the party in the coming days, he said.
Later, a reception function was also held at the party office located at Keishamthong Hodam Leirak in the afternoon.
JD-U state president Hangkhanpao Taithul and other party leaders were present at the function.
Earlier on Wednesday eve-ning, Joykisan in the presence of JD-U national secretary Ramprit Mandal and other party leaders announced his decision to join the party in an event held at his residence.
Members of Thang-meiband Kendra Development Organisation (TKDO) and many of his workers participated in the event.
Joykisan was suspended as a primary member of the Congress party on January 18 following the recommenda-tions of the Disciplinary Action Committee of the state unit.
