Rape convict sentenced to 25 years rigorous imprisonment

Special Judge POCSO Churachandpur has convicted a man in the rape of a minor girl on January 11, 2020 and sentenced him to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment.
During the sentence hearing on Monday, the Court found accused Lienkhosiem Hrawte (52) of Thingchom village, Churachanpur guilty under Section 6 of POCSO Act, 2012 and sentenced him to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment.
It also ordered the convict to pay a fine of Rs 25,000 failing which his sentence will be extended for 1 more month.
The fine should be deposited to the Court, which would then be handed over to the victim as compensation.
The Court further sentenced the convict to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 10 of POCSO Act and slapped Rs 15,000 fine.
If the convict fails to pay the fine, he would have to stay in jail for 1 more month.
The time the convict stayed in jail during the trial period would be commutated from the total sentence period.
The convict will serve the two sentences simultaneously.
The Court also recommended Rs 5 lakh to be awarded to the victim as compensation under Section 357 of CrPC and Manipur Victim Compensation Scheme, 2019 .
