State collects Rs 265 crore on fuel tax

Manipur collected Rs 265 crore sales tax/VAT on all petroleum products in 2020-21, according to a report published by PIB New Delhi.
Union minister of state for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli in a written reply to a question raised in the Rajya Sabha on Monday informed that petroleum sector contributed Rs 3,35,175 in 2016-17; Rs 3,36,163 in 2017-18; Rs 3,48,041 in 2018-19; Rs 3,34,315 in 2019-20; and Rs 4,55,069 in 2020-21 .
The minister also provided the state-wise collection of Sales Tax/VAT on all petroleum products (based on data from 16 major oil & gas companies) during the last five years.
As per the data, Manipur collected Rs 117 crore in 2016-17; Rs 162 crore in 2017-18; RS 181 crore in 2018-19, Rs 192 crore in 2019-20; and Rs 265 crore in 2020-21 .
At Rs 3747 crore, Assam had highest collection of Sales Tax/VAT on all petroleum products among the northeast states in 2020-21 .
Revenue collections in the remaining NE states are Rs 104 crore in Arunachal Pradesh, Rs 84 crore in Mizoram, Rs 148 crore in Nagaland, Rs 111 crore in Sikkim and Rs 445 crore in Tripura while no data is available for Meghalaya.
