State needs specialised psychiatry hospital: Prof Lokendra

Manipur University vice-chancellor professor N Lokendra has emphasised on the importance of setting up a hospital specialised in dealing with the issues of psychiatry in order to provide specialised treatment to psychiatric patients.
Attending as chief guest of the first annual conference of Society of Psychiatric Nurses, Manipur held at RIMS jubilee hall here on Monday, professor Lokendra said that number of psychiatric patients is increasing in the state and it is the right time to organise such conference.
The current global scenario affects human mind and many people are suffering from mental stress, which later develop into psychiatric disorder if left untreated, he said.
Society of Psychiatric Nurses Manipur, RIMS department of psychiatry and share & Care Foundation Wangkhei jointly organised the conference.
Society of Psychiatric Nurses Manipur president Kh Ratna presided over the event, which was also attended by AIIMS New Delhi health consultant Dr Sandhya Gupta, RIMS director Dr A Santa and RIMS psychiatry department's head Dr RK Lenin as guests of honour.
