Imphal, December 20 2021:
Ex-Chief Minister and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Okram Ibobi has categorically stated that Congress party would return to power in the State after the next State Assembly election which is due early next year.
The 16th death anniversary of MLA AK Mirabai's father Akoijam Ibocha (Nupamacha) was observed today at Taobungkhok Awang Leikai.
The death anniversary function also witnessed opening of the first State Level Ibocha Memorial Hockey Tournament.
Apart from releasing a music CD dedicated to late Akoijam Ibocha, NFSA ration cards were distributed to 11,995 beneficiaries.
In addition to Okram Ibobi, the death anniversary function was attended by MPCC president N Loken, MLA Th Lokeshore and ex-MLA O Landhoni.
Speaking at the gathering, O Ibobi said that Congress returned to power at the Centre after the then NDA Government was swept away by a strong political wind despite its extensive publicity campaign carried out across the country under the banner 'India shining'.
Calling upon all the people not to be disheartened, the ex-Chief Minister asserted that the forthcoming State Assembly election would herald big changes in the State's political scenario and Congress party would return to power.
He also appealed to the gathering to re-elect AK Mirabai so that she can serve Patsoi AC and its people in the next term too.
Taking a dig at BJP's claim that they would secure absolute majority by winning more than 40 seats, MPCC president N Loken asked if any BJP leader can point out just 13 seats in both the valley and the hills where their party would emerge victorious.
BJP might win over 40 seats if the Prime Minister, the BJP National president and Union Ministers are allowed to elect their own representatives in the State but it is the people of Manipur who would elect their own representatives, Loken said.
Claiming that BJP would collapse under its own weight, the MPCC president said that BJP would only be the main rival of Congress party in the 2022 election.
Noting that at least four/five people have been seeking BJP tickets in each Assembly segment whereas only one would get the BJP ticket, Loken said that BJP would collapse soon after it announces the list of its candidates.
Saying that construction of roads has been completed in most localities of Patsoi AC, Mirabai vowed that the incomplete ones would be completed soon.
She then appealed to the gathering to re-elect her so that she can serve Patsoi AC for five more years.
