Imphal, September 02 2022:
Over 600 students, of Poiroukhongjin High School are bereft of proper education due to storage of teaching staff as the only 13 teachers present in the school are finding it tough to manage conduct of normal classes of the school, which has classes from 1 to 10 .
Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), as part of its 'Eikhoi Lairik Ningthina Tamsi' campaign, organised a joint meeting with members of MSF head office, MSF Thoubal district committee and student representatives of the school at the school premises on Friday to discuss the issue.
Informing this in a statement, MSF HQ general secretary Hijam Roshan said that students of the school had approached the headmaster on multiple occasions requesting to make necessary communications with the higher authority so as to fill up the vacant posts of teachers in the school.
Instead of sending the required teachers, the edu cation department recently transferred the headmaster and it came to the knowledge of the students and other teaching staff only on Friday though they noticed the headmaster not attending his office for the last few days.
As a result of staff shortage, the students are not getting proper education.
As a way of registering their protest against the apathy shown by the government towards them, students of the school deposited their textbooks at the office of the headmaster on Friday.
Pointing out that education is crucial for bringing social transformation and development in a society, the MSF statement said that the way the education department is running the government schools is only jeopardising the career and future of the students by depriving them of their right to education.
It further demanded the government to look into the matter and send the required number of teachers at the earliest.
