Imphal, September 02 2022:
Remarking that Loktak lake has undergone many changes, Manipur State Power Distribution Company Ltd (MSPDCL) chairman and Thanga AC MLA Tongbram Robindro said that efforts are being made to save the lake.
Bharatiya Kisan Sangh Manipur Prant organised "Balaram Jayenti Utsav-2022" on the theme of "Chemical Free Manipur" at the conference hall of ICAR, Lamphelpat, here, on Friday.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, MLA Robindro conceded that Loktak Lake and parts of Keibul Lamjao have been affected greatly by Ithai barrage.
This has also raised concerns if the Sangai deer could face extinction due to the effects on its ecology.
At present, LDA is working hard to the best of its abilities to preserve the Lake, he asserted.
The MLA continued that organic farming is now increasingly preferred by the people of the state.
As such, the programme was organised with the aim of making Manipur as a chemical free and organic state, he added.
Delivering the presidential speech, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh Manipur Prant president N Indhuboson Singh said that the programme was held as part of the all-India observance.
As the people of the state are increasing their preference for chemical free products, consumption of organic products will help bring about a healthy future generation, he stated.
During the programme, which was also attended by Department of Agriculture director N Gojendro Singh as guest of honour, various resource persons spoke on varied topics in the technical session.
