As such, the age-old technique of farming with the use of natural fertilizers obtained from the fecal matter of animals such as cows, chickens and ducks are steadily gaining popularity, he said.
In view of this situation he urged farmers to grasp and adopt the concept of "Cow Based Agriculture" and make Manipur a chemical free State.
Mentioning the status of Sikkim as a fully organic State, he further called upon farmers to take up appropriate measures to ensure the same for Manipur.
N Indhuboson, president, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Manipur Prant also spoke on the occasion and shared that Balaram Jayenti Utsav 2022 is being observed across the nation.
He pointed out that in order to produce better sportspersons and build a better generation it is important to produce high quality food for consumption.
Adopting new farming technology and techniques may pose a serious risk to soil fertility and this will consequently affect the future generations, he maintained.
"Hence, the function was organised to encourage farmers to return to the age-old farming traditions employed by our ancestors", he said.
N Gojendro, Director, Department of Agriculture emphasized on the loss of soil fertility due to excessive use of chemical fertilizers adding that many such barren agricultural fields exist in the State.
He appealed to farmers to stop excessive use of chemical fertilizers in order to save agricultural lands from losing their fertility and advised them to use them judiciously.
He also promoted soil testing and encouraged farmers to get this test done.
