Interaction prog with writer Saratchand Thiyam held

Assam Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Kamrup district committee organised an interaction programme with Manipuri writer Saratchand Thiyam at the conference hall of Hotel Kalpa, Guwahati on Thursday.
Delivering the key note address of the event chaired by committee president Huirem Hemango, secretary Karam Punshi expressed that the interaction programme with the writer would strengthen the effort of promoting Manipuri literature in Assam while committee's executive member Maisnam Bhagat stressed the need for organising such interaction meets to provide more knowledge about Manipuri literature to the future generation.
Introducing Saratchand Thiyam at the meet, committee's executive member Thounaojam Shyam said that Saratchand Thiyam's contribution in Manipuri literature is enormous and the multi-faceted writer has managed to bring Manipuri literature to the next level with his poems and travelogues.
In his speech, Saratchand thanked Assam Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Kamrup district committee for organising the programme and recalled his struggle as a writer and activist to popularise Manipuri literature outside Manipur.
He said that many of his poems and essays are now being included in syllabus of some universities and this will help in identifying Manipuri literature and culture to students of other states.
Later, Saratchand Thiyam interacted with participants of the programme and discussed about his role in strengthening Manipuri literature outside Manipur.
At the end of the event, writers Thounaojam Shyam, Naorem Amuyaima, Gopal Singha, Maisnam Bhagat, Huirem Hemango and Athena Thiyam read out their respective poems.
