Imphal, April 15 2022:
Sajibu Cheiraoba/Goura Cheiraoba or Charak Puja festivities were held with religious gaiety and feasts in the valley region of the state on Thursday.
The festival celebrated by Meeteis who follow Gouriya religion was marked with people visiting markets in early morning, cooking various dishes, making offering to deities and sharing the dishes with relatives and neighbours.
After presenting seasonal vegetables and fruits to Sanamahi and to ancestral memorials seeking their blessings, the followers generally prepare numerous dishes in their homes.
Dressed in traditional clothing, people place the prepared meals in front of their gates and pray for a prosperous and blessed year.
After this, the dishes are shared with neighbours and the families enjoy the sumptuous feast.
As per tradition, during evening time, people trekked to the nearest hills or mounds in their respective areas.
