JDO calls for Govt intervention

Jiri Development Organisation (JDO) has appealed to the State Government to intervene at the earliest to prevent any unwanted violence over land in Nungkhal village, Jiribam district.
Addressing a press conference held at JDO office in Jiribam Babupara on Thursday, Priyannanda, secretary JDO alleged that on April 13 at around 11am, a large mob led by Aming, chief of Khasiya; Paosing of Bidyanagar; Daya of Pangkhotpai; and Moni of Khasiya threatened the residents of Nungkhal village in Jiribam district.
He also alleged that the mob warned the villagers to obtain relevant documents of Tamenglong district and to call Nungkhal village as Khedagor if they wished to keep living in the area.
Claiming that the mob also destroyed some properties in the village, Priyananda appealed to the State Government and Jiribam Administration to look into the matter and resolve the issue at the earliest to prevent further escalation.
He further cautioned that if the Government failed to take action, JDO with the support of the villagers will resort to democratic forms of agitation.
Md Hassan Admad, a resident of Nungkhal alleged that the mob accompanied by personnel of Tamenglong Police warned them to call Nungkhal as Khedagor and claimed that the village was in Tamenglong district.
The mob also warned the villagers to transfer all relevant documents including land Patta to Tamenglong district.
The press conference was also attended by members of JDO along with the people of Nungkhal, Leishabithol and nearby villages.
