Langthabal Kendra Widows' Welfare Association distributed its annual 9th Educational Financial Assistance to students living under Langthabal assembly constituency whose fathers are no more, on Friday.
The 9th Educational Financial Assistance distribution function of the Association established under the aegis of local MLA Karam Shyam was held at Chajing Mairenkhong community hall.
MLA Shyam, who was chief guest of the function, said that he has been contributing to the society at his level best in different fields.
"I have extended help to poverty-stricken families, extraordinary sportspersons and those who could not afford medical expenses but consulers educational financial assistance to fatherless students as the most important as this kind of help will encourage students to work harder and perform better," he said and appealed to mothers of fatherless students to understand his thought though children might not understand it.
He also claimed that many students have become doctors, army officers and others with the help of small financial assistance given from his side.
According to Karam Shyam, students should not study for getting government job alone but to gain knowledge as it is more important.
Bearing expenses for education is difficult even for students having both parents but many widows are working hard to ensure their children are not deprived of education, he said, adding that the scheme was launched to help widows in bearing educational expenses of their children at least to some extent.
Mention may be made that the Welfare Association has been providing financial assistance to students of Langthabal AC reading in class I to XII under the scheme every year and this year's distribution was for the ninth time.
Altogether, 515 students benefited from the scheme this year.
