Imphal, April 15 2022:
A joint action committee of All Manipur Quarry Association (AMQA) and 20 other workers' organisations have imposed a prohibition on construction companies from outside the State and any entity involved in works related to the Railway Project from carrying out sand mining and stone quarrying.
This ban comes in light of the State Government's failure to take up necessary steps to reverse the Manipur High Court's total ban on unauthorised sand mining and stone quarry on all rivers of the State.
This information was relayed by AMQA treasurer ,Th Sanjay during a press meet held at New Keithelmanbi today.
Th Sanjay stated that the High Court has banned local labourers from sand mining and stone quarrying thereby depriving them of their livelihood while allowing companies from outside the State to continue doing the same.
He added that the JAC will also impose restriction on import of construction items from Dimapur.
He also advised against violating these restrictions.
He further stated that their agitation will continue till the High Court reverses their ban and all the vehicles and machines that have been seized in this connection handed over to their rightful owners.
Th Sanjay also appealed to workers involved in stone crushing to lend their support to the agitation.
