Thunderstorm wreaks havoc across state

Noney/Bishnupur, April 15 2022:
Thunderstorm and heavy rainfall that hit the state on Friday wreaked havoc in various parts of the state.
Normal life was badly affected in Noney and Tamenglong districts due to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm.
Landslides and mudslides occurred in many places.
Trees were uprooted and branches snapped by the storm.
Electric lines were also cut off while in some places' houses and roofing GI sheets were blown away by the strong wind.
Telecommunication system was also badly disrupted.
Vehicular movement was disrupted due to landslides and mudslides near Khongshang along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) and in between Dailong and Tamenglong along the IT Road.
With the help of police and central security forces, the construction companies used their excavators/heavy machineries in clearing the debris and boulders that blocked the roads.
It is reported that dwelling houses and other temporary structures have been blown away in Nungba (Marylane), Thingou, Pungsangmai (Kabui Chingmai) villages of Noney district.
Standing crops were also damaged by the storm.
Some cattle were also killed after they were hit by lighting at Mukti Siamjang village under Nungba police station.
Road cutting works of NHIDCL and railways projects were also interrupted by the inclement weather.
Meanwhile, the thunderstorm damaged houses and blew away GI sheets in some parts of Kumbi assembly constituency.
Roofing GI sheets have been blown away at many places under Borayangbi Gram Panchayat, Wangoo Terakhong and Saiton GP, while movement of people got disrupted due to falling of trees blocking various roads.
