Senapati DC calls for inculcating reading habit

Senapati, May 12 2022: In order to inculcate reading habit, DC Senapati Mahesh Chaudhari launched three street libraries at Senapati headquarters on Thursday.

The initiative was reportedly carried out under the education department of Poumai Naga Baptist Association (PNBA).

Speaking as the chief guest, Mahesh Chaudhari appreciated the initiative and informed that the district administration would try to open one such library every month, targeting up to some 10 such libraries in the district headquarters.

The DC stated that such experiment of inculcating reading habit among the youth arid others would give meditation and peace of mind through reading, apart from youths of the district taking up sports.

He further encouraged people of all ages to come and read and utilise their free time meaningfully.

Mahesh also asked people to donate books for the library so as to reap maximum benefit through street library which is purely a voluntary activity in the service of all.

The DC then assured to give guidance for any assistance whenever needed while asking all not to take away the books in the library which would be disrespectful act.

In his concept note of the library, RN Paul stated that the inspiration of the library is to provide inclusive access to books and promote the culture of reading.

His short note conveys an idea of why such effort is significant and what are the ways in which this small project can be taken forward for purposeful engagement where the commitment is to sow the seeds of knowledge and enlighten the minds of the society by inculcating the habit of reading.

It hopes to serve the community as the appetizing salt.

It is hoped that such humble project will enable everyone to scale up efforts in the years to come and explore ways and means where books and knowledge can be made accessible to promote knowledge as a thing to be shared, not only learned and preserved, the PNBA youth' department said.

PNBA Youth & Education secretary Liba Hopeson, while explaining how to use the library stated that the books in the library belong to all where one can come and read.

They can be borrowed and returned after reading for others to read, he added.

Liba Hopeson also shared hrs belief that when society develops the culture of read ing, it will grow by valuing the ideas and knowledge, adding that reading helps one to think and develop ideas.

Three such libraries are installed at Lassi Point (near PNBA building), waiting shed (near Senapati Police Station) and entrance to DC Office, Senapati.
