'Taal Phangnaba' progs organised

Imphal, May 12 2022:
Under the sponsorship of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi; Manipuri Cultural Ashram (MCA), Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal organised a 'Taal Phangnaba' programme for ritual performing art form of Nat Sankirtana' at the community hall of Naharol Sintha Kanglup, Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi on Thursday.
Presided over by Kshetrigao AC ex-MLA Nahakapam Indrajit, the programme was attended by Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Thokchom Satyabrata as chief guest, while Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) Ward no 20 corporator Loukrakpam Tombi and BJP Yuva Morcha, Manipur president Manohormayum Barish Sharma were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, speaker Satyabrata noted that the cultural legacy left behind by our forefathers has enabled us to stand proudly in front of the international community.
Thus, it is important to preserve our unique cultural wealth for the future generations to come.
He then lauded the efforts of MCA in preservation of Nat Sankirtana, which has been recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, while expressing belief that the Ashram will continue to do the good work in the future as well.
As part of the programme, two taals (rhythm) of Nat Sankirtana, namely 'Rupak Katha' and 'Lakhon Bano' were taken up for discussion.
Nat Sankirtana Guru (song) Khoisnam Kriti and Guru S Thanil (Padmashree) spoke on 'Rupak Katha' and 'Lakhon Bano' respectively.
Floral tributes were also offered to the portraits of deceased Nat Sankirtana Gurus.
Meanwhile, Sawombung Sangeet Samaj under the aegis of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi organised a 'Taal Phangnaba' programme at the hall of the Sangeet Samaj on Thursday.
The programme was attended by Sawombung ZP pradhan Irungbam Robi chandra as chief guest, and Sawombung Sangeet Samaj president S Chandrakumar as president; while Sawombung GP pradhan N Dhaneshwar Singh and Waiton GP pradhan Pukhrambam Surbala were present as guests of honour.
Delivering the keynote speech, Sawombung Sangeet Samaj secretary LC Achanba said that Manipuri Nat Sankirtana was born after the old kings of Manipur allowed Hinduism to take root in Manipur.
This art form is now a major cultural identity of Manipur, he stated, while adding that during the 'Taal Phangnaba' programme, two important 'taals' were taken up and presented to the audience.
In his speech, Sawombung ZP pradhan Irungbam Robichandra assured to complete construction of the hall of the Samaj, while urging the gathering to help bring about a good society.
Later, visiting Guru Lakhpati gave an explanation on Nat Sankirtana.
