Imphal, May 12 2022:
Demanding total removal of AFSPA, amendment to MLR and LR Act 1960 and setting up of National Highway Protection Force, Shiv Sena Manipur State submitted a three-point memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah through the Parliamentary Standing Committee.
In a release, Shiv Sena Manipur general secretary Sam Laithangbam recalled that a team of Parliamentary Standing Committee comprising 15 MPs visited the state for field assessment of water resources and other agendas on May 9.The party's president M Tombi submitted a memorandum to the chairman of the committee Jagadambika Paul for relaying the same to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.
The said memorandum emphasised on total repeal of AFSPA from the state as the law and order situation has improved remarkably.
As extortion or daylight robbery on the two national highways by some rogue elements needs to be checked at the earliest, the party demanded setting up of a National Highway Protection Force, he informed.
Sam Laithangbam further said that the MLR and LR Act 1960 needs to be amended and make it uniform as the present Act seems to be biased.
The Act prevents the general population of the plains from purchasing/procuring any property in the hills whereas the scheduled tribes from the hills are free to own properties in the valley which is only 8 per cent of the total geographical area of the state.
This discrepancy in the Act needs to be rectified for the welfare of general public at the earliest, he added.
