Imphal, May 12 2022:
The Court of Session Judge, Imphal West has rejected bail application of two alleged accused of the Mana Ingkhol gang rape case as the Court found no reasonable ground to release them at the present stage.
The bail application was filled by alleged accused Koijam Ajitkumar Meitei, (35) s/o K Nimai Meitei of Mana Ingkhol Mamang Leikai and Oinam Sanatomba Singh (42) s/o O Nabakumar Singh of Kiyamgei Mamang Leikai, presently staying at Mana Ingkhol Mamang Leikai.
The victim of the case lodged a complaint to Women Police Station, Imphal West on March 10 this year stating that on March 8 at around 3.30 pm while she was alone in her room, two unknown persons masked with clothes came inside the room and forcibly covered her mouth, tied her hands and legs by her chunni (small shawl) and they forcibly raped her.
Further, the two persons threatened her by keeping a knife on her belly not to disclose the incident to anyone otherwise they will kill her.
The complainant/victim tried to shout but she was overpowered by them.
Later, the two persons left the victim without releasing her from binding.
She could not report the incident promptly due to fear of the threats made by the two accused persons.
The Court, after hearing the submission of both parties and on perusal of the case record and statement of the victim, observed that the alleged incident is a heinous crime against woman and the case is under full investigation.
The Court ruled that sufficient time should be given to the investigating authority to hunt out more details of the case.
As the accused persons are from the same locality of the alleged victim, releasing them, while the case is under investigation, might also hamper or temper prosecution witnesses and would cause fear and grave discomfort to the alleged victim, the Court remarked.
The Court, considering the nature and seriousness of the allegation, opined that a proper and thorough investigation of the case is needed.
Thus the Court rejected the bail application citing that there is no reasonable ground for releasing the accused persons on bail at the present stage.
