Imphal, June 11 2026: Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam has described the abduction and killing of six civilians as unprecedented and a heinous crime against humanity.

Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, former Chief Minister N Biren, several Naga MLAs including Awangbow Newmai visited the JNIMS mortuary today where the identification process of the six Naga civilians was underway.

The six civilians were abducted on May 13 before they were found dead with their bodies mutilated on June 10, after nearly 28 days of search operations.

Speaking to media persons after interacting with the bereaved families, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam described the abduction and killing of the six civilians as "unprecedented" and a "heinous crime against humanity" .

He assured that those responsible would be arrested soon.

Responding to questions regarding the recovery of the bodies after nearly a month, Govindas said security forces had been carrying out continuous search operations despite challenges posed by limited manpower in the hill areas.

He acknowledged that security constraints remain a concern but expressed hope that the recent deployment of two battalions of COBRA commandos would further strengthen operations in the region.

"Even if more security forces are deployed, they cannot achieve much without the cooperation of the people," he said, while appealing for support from communities in both the hill and valley regions to restore peace and security.

Condemning the killings, the Home Minister said the abduction and murder of innocent civilians violated basic human values and reiterated the Government's commitment to bringing all those involved to justice.

Addressing queries over the timing of the recovery of the bodies following the release of 14 Kuki individuals by Naga leaders, Govindas said search operations had been going on and authorities had been working relentlessly to trace the missing persons, dead or alive.

He credited the district administration and police officials for their efforts in the operation and praised the Naga community for releasing the 14 Kuki individuals unharmed.

"The release of the 14 Kuki people by the kind-hearted Naga leaders is highly appreciated.

It reflects the humanity and culture of that community," he said.

The Home Minister further stated that law enforcement agencies would take stern action against those involved in violence and inhuman acts.
