Imphal, December 26 2021:
Manipur Hills Journalists' Union (MHJU) on Sunday expressed strong concern over the intimidation of The Sangai Express (TSE) staff on December 24 while on duty and vehemently condemned the incident.
MHJU said that it "stands in solidarity with those victims and TSE while endorsing the statement of EGM and AMWJU regarding the unfortunate incident which happened along the busy Airport Road".
The union called for the state government's urgent intervention into the matter, saying booking of the perpetrators without delay will restore trust in the government's assurance of protecting the media from similar incidents which have increased in recent years.
"The media fraternity in Manipur despite its best efforts & sacrifices to provide 24x7 services has been facing bomb attacks, intimidation, threats & harassments.
It is time the state government seriously considers the worrying trend on attacks of media fraternity to curb such unwanted in the future," it added.
