Imphal, December 26 2021:
Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State has announced names of its two candidates in the first phase for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election scheduled in early next year.
Announcing the names to media persons at the party's office, BT Road here on Sunday, CPI Manipur State Council secretary L Sotinkumar said that Council Secretariat member Rk Amusana will be the candidate in Khurai AC, while All Manipur Nupi Marup executive member Yengkhom Roma will contest from Kakching AC.
Sotinkumar continued that the party will not field candidates recklessly.
It will extend support to other non-communal political parties except BJP, which shared the same thinking as left parties and will work to save Manipur.
CPI does not take the ongoing trend of muscle and money power lightly.
However, it will do carry out its role to ensure that democracy is upheld in the state during the polls.
CPI national executive member Dr M Nara, who also attended the press meet, said that it is regrettable to see the polls being made into a festival of flags and display of money power.
He then commented on the rising incidents of poll violence, remarking that politics is now associated with violence while a system of the rich contesting the polls has come about.
Frequent turncoat incidents have also destroyed all credibility of politicians.
The flaws in the electoral system have corroded to such a level that gun violence and money power has become the norm.
If this system is not rectified, the state will deteriorate and the absence of a free and fair election will prevent the formation of a good government, he cautioned.
While informing that the party has not made any decision on fielding candidates in each constituency, Dr Nara stressed the need for discussing the roles that the candidates, who have failed to get the party tickets, are supposed to play.
Thus, there is a need to support secular and democratic candidates, who are not associated with BJP, to prevent the return of the BJP government.
He then urged all concerned to stop indulging in the circus of money so as to prevent further occurrences of poll violence, while further urging all to adhere to the laws and rules laid down by the Election Commission of India.
