AMSA felicitates Padma Shri Oinam Bembem

The All Manipur Sports Association (AMSA) has felicitated renowned woman footballer and Padma Shri Oinam Bembem Devi today at Mapal Kangjeibung.
The annual general body meeting of the association cum felicitation programme of Oinam Bembem was attended by L Lokendra Singh, president AMSA; W Sushilkumar, treasurer AMSA; L Jyotirmoy Roy, assistant secretary AMSA and H Shyamkishor, assistant secretary as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, former athlete and educationist Seram Lokeshwar sung praises of Oinam Bembem for her achievements and on receiving Padma Shri award recently.
He also wished the former Indian skipper to scale more success in her future endeavors and bring laurels to the State.

Oinam Bembem, also expressed gratitude and elation for the reception programme and told that it was a huge honour for her to be able to attend such a programme organised by the apex body of sports in the State.
She could attain such a position and achieve many things thanks to the valuable advices, suggestions and support of the elders in the association, Oinam Bembem said while adding that she will never forget the contributions and support of all.
She also sought blessings from former renowned athletes and sports personalities present to be able to do more for the State and the country in the future.
It may be noted that the legendary woman footballer from the State had participated and led the State and the Indian team in many National and international tournaments.
In recognition of her contribution, she was named Woman Footballer of the Year twice, in the year 2001 and 2013, by the All India football Federation.
Oinam Bembem, who is regarded as the "Durga of Indian Football" had captained India in as many as 7 international matches.
In recognition of her contributions in the field of football, she was conferred Arjuna Award in 2017 and became the first Indian woman footballer to receive the Padma Shri award this year.
