MHRC takes stock of Heirok killing

A team of Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) officials visited Heirok to take stock of the firing incident that claimed one life on December 22 last, today.
The team was led by Acting Chairperson of MHRC, Khaidem Mani.
In the indiscriminate fire, a student named Ningthoujam Rohit was killed while his father N Premchand sustained bullet wounds.
In connection with the incident, the MHRC has taken up a suo motu case and had asked the Chief Secretary, DGP and SP Thoubal to submit a status report of the investigation on or before December 30, 2021.During today's visit, MHRC officials interacted with the family members of the deceased student.
Additional SP, Thoubal who accompanied the MHRC team informed that a SIT has been constituted to expeditiously investigate the case.
At least six persons have been arrested in connection with the case.
The MHRC will continue its proceedings on December 30, 2021.
