Ukhrul, June 21 2022:
Major parts of Ukhrul district continued to reel under total darkness for the third consecutive day on Tuesday as restoration works could not be completed.
Earlier, it was expected that the power supply would be restored by June 20.However, this could not be fulfilled as the damages were critical, an official source said.
"The major part of installing the uprooted double electric poles has been done and now installation of the wires is the only task left.
We are hopeful that the entire restoration works will be completed by tomorrow (June 22)", the source said.
Heavy thunderstorms on the night of June 18 had uprooted twin electric poles at Shimtang village about 10 km west of Ukhrul district headquarters.
Following the damage, the entire region covered by Hundung sub-station feeder via Shimtang village, including the main town areas, has been experiencing power cuts.
Both Manipur State Power Corporation Limited (MSPCL) and Manipur State Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MSPDCL), Ukhrul Division have engaged their manpower in the restoration tasks at the affected site for two days since June 20 .
