Reacting to the allegations levelled by Darjeeling MP Raju Bista during an election event held on Monday that the JD(U) candidate from Kangpokpi assembly constituency Soshim Gurung alias Shim Shim is not a Gorkha, the candidate's uncle Prem Kumar Gurung termed as unfortunate that the MP does not know the history of Manipuri Gorkhas.
Addressing a press meet at Sangakpham on Tuesday, Prem Gurung stated that Soshim's grandfather Bom Bahadur Gurung and father Ranjit Gurung are prominent domiciled citizens of the state.
Ranjit Gurung is a retired Indian Navy personnel and he has contested the assembly elections from Kangpokpi AC three times.
Carrying on his father's legacy, Soshim Gurung prepared to contest the 2017 election, but withdrew his candidature and supported another Nepali candidate from the AC, he mentioned.
While pointing out that Soshim is the lone Gorkha candidate contesting the assembly election, his uncle belittled the claim by MP Raju Bista about ancestry of a candidate who has been approved by Election Commission of India.
Joining the media briefing, All Manipur Gurung.
Association (AMGA) general secretary Rajendra Kumar said that the false claim made by MP Raju Bista, who seems to have been instigated by the rival candidate, is regrettable.
While condemning the MP's slanderous comment, he demanded that Bista clarify on the matter within two days failing which intense protests will be launched by the Association against the MP.
The press meet was also attended by AMGA chairman Laxman Gurung.
